RESEARCH

During my cases and campaigns class project, I had the opportunity to work on a team in collaboration with the Family Resource Center, an agency that provides in-home parenting and life skills training to families. The goal of this research was to gain insights into how to grow their social media engagement and event attendance. We conducted quantitative research by crafting and sending out a survey and qualitative research by having an in-depth focus group. This extensive research allowed us to apply communication principles learned in class, and present the Family Resource Center a well-rounded set of deliverables that aimed to enhance their outreach and engagement strategies.

Dance Moms: Depictions of  Race and Gender in Lifetime's Hit Reality TV Show

I wrote a communications theories paper that analyzed the reality television show Dance Moms using the perspectives of both gender theory and critical race theory. The analysis exposes the reinforcement of numerous racial and gender stereotypes within the show. The paper sheds light on the deliberate efforts by reality TV networks to cast individuals into stereotypical roles, perpetuating these false narratives onto reality stars.
